Tomato rice

Tomato rice is evolved from South Indian version its an easy to prepare.Its best go with papad, lime pickle and curd. This recipe is basically from South India but it’s cooked every part of India.

As per our taste we can make it spicy and non spicy. This simple recipe is cooked with lot of tomatoes. I made tomato rice masala which add flavour and aromatic to the recipe.

1. Raw rice – In this method will cooked the rice in during making of tomato rice using pressure cooker.

You can make tomato rice with two methods:

I am sharing the recipes for both the method.

2. Pre cooked rice- In this method we used pre cooked rice or leftover rice.

Preparation time – 15 minutes

Cooking time- 30 minutes

Total time- 45 minutes

Serving -02

Ingredients:

1/2 cup basmati rice cooked

2 tomatoes (medium size) finely chopped

7-10 garlic flakes (paste)

1/2 tsp red powder

1/2 tsp garam masala

1/4 tsp turmeric powder

Salt as per taste

1 green chillie

1 tbsp oil

1/2 tsp mustard seeds

4-5 curry leaves

Coriander leaves for garnish

For tomato rice masala :

1/2 tsp urad dal

1 tsp chana dal

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

Steps of making tomato rice with pre – cooked rice:

1.Heat a pan roast urad dal, chana dal and cumin seeds on a low flame. Cool it and grind it make a fine powder. Tomato rice masala is ready.

2. Wash and soaked the rice for 30 mins. After 30 minutes boil water in a deep pan , add rice and cook until rice gets cooked

3. Heat oil in a pan put mustard seeds, add garlic fry for 1 minute.Now, add chopped tomatoes sauté for 3-4 minutes.

4. Add turmeric , salt, tomato rice masala which we have prepared at step 1.

5. Cook tomatoes until it became soft and mushy than add cooked rice, mix it well.

6. Now tomato rice is ready serve with curd, lemon pickle, papad.

Steps of making tomato rice with raw rice:

1.Heat a pan roast urad dal, chana dal and cumin seeds on a low flame. Cool it and grind it make a fine powder. Tomato rice masala is ready.

2. Wash and soaked the rice for 30 mins. After 30 mins drain the water and keep it aside.

3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, put mustard seeds, add garlic fry for 1 minute.Now, add chopped tomatoes sauté for 3-4 minutes.

4. Add turmeric , salt, tomato rice masala which we have prepared at step 1.

5. Cook tomatoes until it became soft and mushy than add raw rice which we have soaked rice, mix it well. Add water 3/4 cup water.

5. Close the lid. After two whistle close the pressure cooker, lets the pressure release naturally.

6. Tomato rice is now ready to serve.
