Gingerbread cookies

Wholewheat Gingerbread Cookies signify many things, the onset of winter and the long-awaited Christmas that follows. While it is mainly baked in winters, the Christmas celebration is not complete without gingerbread cookies. The very aroma of these cookies ignites the Christmas spirit in children and adults alike. The taste of theses warm cookies brings a wave of nostalgia and the combination of sugar and spices adds to the whole experience. Spices like nutmeg, clove and cinnamon are added into this cookie recipe that enhances the flavour of this dish. Decoration makes it more enjoyable as children love decorating them. They are both soft and chewy which makes them a perfect dessert. This recipe is very simple and the end product is very tasty. These cookies are very addictive and you will be unable to stop your desire to have just one more.

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon clove powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:1. In a large bowl add butter, brown sugar, and molasses beat using hand mixer until it became fluffy. Now, Add egg and vanilla extract beat it.

2. In a bowl, whisk flour, spices, baking soda, and salt .

3.With the hand mixer on low, gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients .Do not overmix.

4. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and keep in refrigerator for 2 hours.

5.Preheat oven to 350° and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. Place dough on a lightly floured surface and roll . Cut out gingerbread men with a cutter and transfer to baking sheets.

6.Bake until slightly puffed it takes 9 to 10 minutes, depending on the size of your cookie cutters and oven.

7.Let cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely.

8.Decorate it with icing and sprinkles.
